We are seeking an experienced professional with an entrepreneurial mindset and knowledge of the tech startup world. A key priority in this role is to be a point of contact for the Dutch technology broker of the European Space Agency (ESA) in the Netherlands. The brokerage is jointly managed by the Space Business Innovation Centre (SBIC) Noordwijk and NL Space Campus and offers a service to any non-space entity seeking to address innovation challenges, as well as to any space entity exploring terrestrial applications. The successful candidate will have excellent mentoring and communication skills and a proactive nature ensuring the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Located at the heart of the Dutch space industry on the NL Space Campus, SBIC Noordwijk supports space related startups and initiatives in various stages of their development. Next to managing the ESA’s business incubation programme ESA BIC Noordwijk and the pre-incubation Ignition Programme, SBIC plays a critical role in developing an innovative ecosystem co-managing the ESA Technology Broker NL and attracting companies to the Netherlands through the Soft Landing programme. We also organise activities and events to inspire individuals and startups on their entrepreneurial journey.

What will you do?

As business development manager, your main tasks will be for the ESA Technology Broker NL, tapping into the realm of space tech. Supporting the space industry in the Netherlands with technology transfer activities, you will be co-managing brokerage services that include: solving industrial challenges using space technology (spin-off); facilitating companies to bring terrestrial innovations into the space domain (spin-in); scouting and matching promising technologies; brokering introductions with potential collaborators; advising on prospective ideas; and providing recommendations for finding funding for research and development. 

Next to the broker, your role will focus on supporting the scouting of potential applicants for the ESA BIC Noordwijk programme, as well as providing business support and guidance to the incubated startups and participants in the Soft Landing programme.

JOB DETAILS

  • Starting 1 July or earlier
  • The successful candidate will be based at SBIC Noordwijk headquarters

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • 32 hours per week
  • Starting gross salary between €3.600 and €4.000 depending on experience
  • Holiday allowance of 8% annual gross salary
  • Number of holidays: 23 per year
  • Travel expenses related to work may be covered, depending on the method of transport

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Proactively seeking out opportunities for technology transfer from space
  • Liasing with candidates, commercial partners and various industry players to explore promising ideas through events, workshops and more
  • Scouting for potential applicants for the ESA BIC Noordwijk programme
  • Providing business support to participants in the various programmes managed by SBIC and monitoring the progress of participants
  • Representing the broker and SBIC Noordwijk at events across Europe
  • Providing analysis and regular reports to ESA and related partners
  • Managing the broker budget and associated documentation

The successful business development manager will play a crucial role in matching potential space solutions with innovation challenges from terrestrial industries, as well as providing essential support to participants in the programmes managed by SBIC Noordwijk, driving their growth and success.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education level: relevant completed WO or HBO degree or higher
  • Great communication skills and natural ability to build meaningful connections
  • Proactive nature and impeccable organisational skills to manage your own workflow and handle multiple concurrent programmes
  • Strategic and goal oriented
  • Excellent coaching and mentoring skills to provide constructive feedback in a supportive and encouraging manner
  • Experience within the entrepreneurship ecosystem; preferable, having own (space)tech startup
  • Fluency in Dutch and English (verbal and in writing)
  • Representative and a sense of humour
  • Resident in the Netherlands

Space Business Innovation Centre (SBIC) Noordwijk supports entrepreneurs that want to launch or improve a product or service that makes use of space technology. We give them access to an international network, tools, knowledge and finance. One of the most important tasks of SBIC Noordwijk is managing the European Space Agency’s business incubation programme in the Netherlands, ESA BIC Noordwijk. Next to that, we manage several programmes and, on a project basis, we often work with other space related efforts, like the NL Space Campus or helping entrepreneurs from abroad set up their space businesses in the Netherlands.
